About Role:

Manage and advise on the company’s legal affairs, including SNP [ship/sale/purchase contracts], charter party contracts and disputes, insurance claims/disputes, vendor agreements, ship financing contracts/documents, and other commercial matters. Assist the various SNP, Operations, Chartering, and Finance departments with sound legal advice, as well as general corporate structuring and commercial advisory for the company.

Responsibilities:

Legal counsel and management of P&I and FD&D claims with P&I Clubs and outside counsel.
Prepare, improve, and implement new procedures and guidance for compliance, risk management, and based on changes in international regulations and new case law developments.
Due diligence and regulatory advice on counterparties, vessels, and corporate authorities, as well as sanctions advice.
Advice on international and domestic maritime law, statutory and regulatory issues, including environmental, safety, labour, and sanction laws, as well as other maritime issues.
On current litigation matters, instruct and communicate with external counsel in various international jurisdictions.

Requirements:

A minimum LLB or equivalent bachelor’s degree in law is required.
An LLM in Admiralty/Maritime law would be beneficial.
5 to 10 years of legal experience working at law firms and successfully resolving disputes is required.
Previous experience as an in-house legal counsel for a ship owning group is preferred.
Outstanding command of both verbal and written English communication skills.
Extremely well-organized, with excellent multitasking, interpersonal, and management abilities.
Excellent negotiating skills.
Ability to work outside of regular hours as needed.
