About Role:

The school nurse plays an important role in providing expertise and oversight for the delivery of school health services. The school nurse provides health care to students and staff by applying clinical knowledge and judgement. Performs health screenings and, if necessary, coordinates referrals to the medical home or a private healthcare provider. The goal of this role is to prevent illness and disability, as well as to detect and correct health problems in students as early as possible.

Responsibilities:

Gets a medical and developmental history
Screens and evaluates findings for vision, hearing, scoliosis, growth, and other deficiencies.
In order to make a nursing assessment and nursing diagnosis, the nurse observes the child for development and health patterns.
Identifies health findings that are outside of the normal range
Assists with physical examinations when they are held at school.

Requirements:

When a student visits the school clinic, notify his or her parents.
Keep a record of all students who come to the school clinic, including the student’s name, time in, complaint, time out, and time, if the child is sent home.
Advance notification to parents for routine check-ups and vaccinations
Keep track of all medical requirements at the clinic. To ensure the availability of all medicines, bandages, and equipment, stock must be ordered in advance.
Maintain a clean and sanitary clinic at all times.
When not in use, keep the clinic locked.
