Breaking: EGA Opens 170000-Tonne Recycling Plant in Q1 2026, Launches Major Hiring Drive Across UAE

Emirates Global Aluminium | January 3, 2026

Abu Dhabi/Dubai — Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), the world’s largest premium aluminium producer, is set to launch the UAE’s largest aluminium recycling plant at Al Taweelah during the first quarter of 2026, company officials confirmed. The massive facility, with a production capacity of 170,000 tonnes per year, marks a significant milestone in the UAE’s sustainability push and will create hundreds of new jobs across technical and operational roles.

600 Jobs Available as EGA Accelerates Emiratisation

In parallel with the new plant opening, EGA announced plans to hire up to 600 UAE Nationals by 2027 as part of its aggressive Emiratisation strategy. The company’s in-focus Emiratisation rate currently stands at 44.5% at the end of 2024, with a target of 50% by 2027.

The hiring surge follows EGA’s recent recruitment success at the Ru’ya Career Fair in September 2025, where the company offered positions to more than 100 young UAE Nationals. These new recruits are expected to begin work starting April 2026.

“At EGA, we see the development of young UAE Nationals not only as a national duty, but as a strategic driver of our success,” said Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, Chief Executive Officer of Emirates Global Aluminium.

Historic Production Milestone Fuels Expansion

EGA’s announcement comes on the heels of reaching 50 million tonnes of cast metal production since operations began in 1979. The company sold 2.74 million tonnes of cast metal in 2024 alone, cementing its position as a global aluminium leader.

The new Al Taweelah recycling plant represents EGA’s commitment to circular economy principles and will help reduce the environmental impact of aluminium production while meeting growing global demand for recycled metal.

EGA is currently recruiting across multiple categories:

  • Mechanical Engineers (AED 13,750/month average)

Operations Positions:

Training Programs for Fresh Graduates

Since January 2025, 148 UAE Nationals, including 86 women, have joined EGA through various training programs. The company offers two flagship initiatives:

National Training Programme — For UAE high school leavers seeking technical roles in operations and administration. Over 5,000 UAE Nationals have graduated since the program’s inception in 1982.

Graduate Training Programme — An 18-24 month structured program for university graduates leading to supervisory positions.

Walk-In Interviews Return

EGA has participated in over 70 career fairs throughout 2025 and plans to continue its aggressive recruitment drive in 2026. The company received more than 1,800 applications from UAE National job seekers at the recent Ru’ya event, conducting approximately 100 interviews during the three-day fair.

Job seekers can apply directly through EGA’s official careers portal at careers.ega.ae or watch for announcements about upcoming walk-in interview dates.

US Expansion Creates Additional Opportunities

Beyond UAE operations, EGA is moving forward with plans to invest $4 billion in a new aluminium smelter in Inola, Oklahoma. The facility, expected to be operational by the end of 2026, will create 1,000 jobs and represent the first new primary aluminium production plant in the United States since 1980.

The Oklahoma plant is projected to produce approximately 750,000 tonnes per annum of primary aluminium, nearly doubling America’s metal-producing capacity.

Women’s Representation Grows

EGA continues pushing for greater gender diversity in its workforce. The company currently employs over 470 women in the UAE, including more than 160 in operations roles. Women now hold around 23.3% of supervisory positions, with EGA targeting 25% by the end of 2025 and 15% of all positions by the end of 2026.

Twenty percent of EGA’s current trainee workforce consists of women, marking significant progress in a traditionally male-dominated industry.
